Rethink the email/notification setup workflows
An old user study I've done shows that people don't understand how the email/notification setup works at all. I can't blame them :-)
The current screens shows two different aspects:
- to which email is the notification sent (ditto for other notifications)
- the reports/alerts themselves
Actually, my guess is that the current processes are the following:
- on the first time, set up the email address
- then set up the alerts/reports (every time the screen is visited)
- on a less frequent basis: disable the emails/notification altogether, change the email address
- the "send email test" is actually an admin task and shouldn't be in this screen
Hence the following proposals:
-
move the "send email test" subform to the admin screen -
split the email screen into: 1. a screen to set up the email, and allow disabling altogether (if there was an email address previously), 2. the list of reports/alerts -
the screen to set up email and disabling should be simplified: a field for the email address, and an explicit button to disable (that would be equivalent to removing the email address)
