apache/ssl trouble with new install...

Just when you thought is was safe to go back in the water! I'M BACK!!! (tried to contact people through an account at hubuno.nl, but not getting through, and the admin there is clueless, tells me to post to some support forum on another hub...Dude, If I'm not getting though to anyone, and not seeing any response to my posts or messages, and don't have shell access to YOUR server...what good will it do me to try to post to some forum on another hub? HMMM?!)
consequently trying to install hubzilla on my own server again (contabo vps, deb/jessie 8.5) and with a bran-spanking shiny new cert from StartSSL, I've got everything cloned and in place, a DB made (MariaDB), and a vhost in place. When I a2ensite the new url (hub.tonybaldwin.me) and try to reload apache, it fails, and doesn't tell me why, apache2ctl configtest says "Syntax OK" The only thing I can find in /var/log/apache/error.log is this: SSL Library Error: 185073780 error:0B080074:x509 certificate routines:X509_check_private_key:key values mismatch [Wed Sep 28 22:12:29 2016] [error] Unable to configure RSA server private but I don'r understand..the support (idiots) st StartSSL said it's because my key and cert don't match, but I started over like 5 times, generating a new pair, each time deleting the prior pair first, creating the new ones with the openssl command on the StartSSL site: openssl req -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout yourname.key -out yourname.csr which apparently generates a cert, key and csr (request for CA signature?). When I queried the support idiots at StartSSL why this kept happening, the only thing they could do was paste links to their incomplete docu over and over, and eventually suggest that perhaps I hadn't decrypted the key, but then failed to elaborate further on what that entails. I suppose I'll go google that, and if my problem isn't solved return and beg for assistance.
