A home page that does not redirect
We are building websites that have a home page, and one of the requirements is that if you go to the root of example.com
, it does not redirect you to another page... it just displays the home page.
There are a variety of ways to make this happen. One is changing the rewrite directive in .htaccess
. But we discovered that .htaccess
is included in the core and might overwrite our version.
And using include:home.php
in the admin settings for the home page won't solve the problem since you can't get to the home page when logged in, since it redirects to /hq
.
One possible solution is to change .htaccess
so that local changes won't get overwritten. This has its pros and cons. Namely that you have to manually change if for every website, and if the core needs to change the .htaccess
, each site has to manually update .htaccess
.
The other solution is to change how the core handles the home page. This is the preferred way.
We can set it up so that people have a choice on how it behaves.
Option 1: Root /
shows home page when logged out, redirects to /hq
when logged in.
Option 2: Root /
always shows home page.
Before we spend a lot of time working on this, we want to know if a change like this would be accepted in the core.
