Age of new posts in notifications is calculated incorrectly; time zone related
Notifications of new posts in the top right corner display an incorrect age of said new posts. The displayed age is offset from the actual age by the difference between either the user's local time zone or the time zone in the hub configuration and UTC.
This is particularly obvious in time zones east of Greenwich, i.e. UTC+_x_ timezones where recent enough posts are being announced for the future.
For example, I (location: central Europe = CEST = UTC+2) am on hub.netzgemeinde.eu (location: central Europe = CEST = UTC+2), and I'm notified about new posts as being posted in ca. 2 hours.
Conclusion: The age of a new post is calculated either as
now (UTC) - post time (hub time zone)
or as
now (UTC) - post time (channel time zone)
So at 16:05 (local time) = 14:05 (UTC), the age of a post from 16:00 (local time) = 14:00 (UTC) is calculated as 14:05 (UTC) - 16:00 (local time) = -1h55min
.
This is not Hubzilla's only mix-up where it uses timestamps from different time zones within the same calculation. #1771 (closed) mentions similar behaviour for calendar events.
