Support for Nested Tabs? Like Tree-Style.
Description
A way to automatically group tabs opened from the current tab. If a New Tab is opened from the Current Tab it becomes a nested child of the tab the URL was opened from, and the parent tab displays a drop down arrow to expand the nested tabs. As well as a way to pull that tab via drag and drop out of the nested tab tree. Tree-Style tabs incorporates this functionality and it would be really useful to have, because it will save tons of space being able to collapse and expand tab trees. Combining this with already existing extensions that allow you to rename tab titles, it could easy be utilized to keep tabs in to groups as a result of the native nested behavior.
An example would be as if I'm currently on Framagit.org, I Middle Click or Right Click -> Open in New Tab a link on the currently loaded tab: [https://framagit.org] ... A new tab opens from that tab and is recognized as a child of [https://framagit.org]. The Tab List then displays like this:
[https://framagit.org] V
+ [https://framagit.org/child-tab]
If a new tab is opened from the parent tab more than once:
[https://framagit.org] V
+ [https://framagit.org/child-tab]
If a new tab is opened from one of the child tabs:
[https://framagit.org] V
+ [https://framagit.org/child-tab]
+ [https://framagit.org/child-tab] V
+ + [https://framagit.org/child--child tab]
If the parent tab is collapsed:
I would place the drop down arrows to the left side of the Tab Logo Icon, not at the end of the tabs. JFYI.
Tree-Style Tabs incorporates these features. The only thing it's missing is the ability to search tabs. I don't want to make comparisons here, but with respect to each add-on as the developer of TST seems open to the idea of discussing other extensions that are similar to his own, it should be okay. After all it's up to the user to decide which Addon they prefer to use, and why.
TST incorporates a lot of advanced features, the ability to search tabs is not present however it can be done by using TabHunter or by writing a % in the address bar followed by a space and what to search and then a drop down will appear of the results for any currently opened tabs that match that criteria.
TCR's search incorporates the search directly into the sidebar which I think is very cool, but it should be an option that is configurable to disable/enable this portion of code. If it's disabled that portion of the code won't run in order to keep things efficient.
Tree-Style has a config for the indentation level, e.g. how many nested tabs you can have, that would be an idea to incorporate as well, and I think a lot of inspiration and improvements could be made. TST has a lot of very advanced features which are accessible from the options page or by right-clicking the Addon icon in the menu bar. I would also suggest an addon I found recently which allows tabs to be grouped by domain. It's called 'Order Tabs by Domain' and it will allow you to for example find every tab that matches *.framagit.org and pull them all out of the current browsing session all windows and compile them in to a single window.
I do believe TST has a Public License so I don't think there is anything to worry about in terms of copyright violation, and after all you're not using any of their code, since you would be doing it your own way. I'm not sure if I can adapt my current theme to TST with the auto hiding sidebar or not yet but I don't see why not. I would guess that any plans to incorporate nested tabs in to TCR would be a long time from now but this is only food for thought since TCR has come a long way and the developer has put a lot of hard work in to it. I would be happy to see it continue.
