Option to mute threads
Describe the improvement
While the current options to mute a person either permanently or for a timed period are nice, it would also be useful if you could mute a specific thread.
I'm following a couple of accounts that tend to live-toot shows they watch, and in general I like their content, but at times I wish I could block follow-up posts to their live-toot threads from appearing in my timeline. I could add a keyword filter I guess, but follow-up toots don't always include the same keywords. I could also give them a timed muted, but I don't always know how long they'll be tooting about the same topic, and they might also be tooting about other topics simultaneously. It also wouldn't stop me from seeing replies to the same thread from other people I followed.
So, I'd like to see 2 contextual options to a toot:
-
Mute thread for this account: this would hide any replies to the current thread from the current toot's account from your timeline. Replies from other accounts to the same thread should still show up however.
-
Mute thread completely: like option 1, but also hide replies from any other accounts.
With either option, the top-level post for the thread should remain visible in the timeline, and the thread view for it should remain to show the complete context; only the timeline should be affected when muted from your timeline. This would also allow to unmute an account from a threaded discussion.
