EP24: German Translation Discussion
Hey there, i read the german translation today, and a have a bit of complains about it. it seems it is translated from the very free english translation. there are a very lot of differences to the french one and so i want to discuss this to get the best possible german translation. i added my own translation, translated from the french one directly
there are a lot of things in the current translation that have to be changed, i dont know where to start: (i write this in english, not german, so everybody can say their opinion, maybe even david)
1.page,2.panel: the big "NICHT" is a sign that Ret used the english translation for her/his translation. in the french this is not written in BIG letters. but this is not that important
more important: 1.p,3.p: "Zerstörungszauber" .. in french it is marked as "spells of destruction" not "destructionspells" the first one is more wizzardy. it is a name of certain spells. the second one is about all spells. all spells are destructionspells...but "spells of destruction" are some serious ones in the book... it sounds more important. unfortunately uses Ret the latter one "Zerstörungszauber" instead of "Zauber (better Sprüche) der Zerstörung" (i dont mention this in further explanations)
1.p.4.p: i like her/his "Erschaffungszauber" ..its better than mine "Schöpfungszauber"
2.p.4.p: in german you hardly say, the tree is illuminated by smth. you say that it has it on it. so it has candles on it. so i prefer to change it to "Ein großer grüner Baum mit Sternen und kleinen Sonnenystemen" ... thats enough.. 2.p.5.p: here it was hard for me to decide if i translate the "creative" to the same sounding german "kreativ" like Ret did, or to the "schöpferisch". the important difference in my view is, that pepper doesnt want to destroy, she wants the opposite, she wants to create. that means "schöpferisch"... "kreativ" is more to have ideas, a open and creative mind... 2.p.6.p: are "mes marraines verraient" not the "Patentanten"... the aunts that are not real aunts (Tanten, like Res translated) but told to watch over pepper?
so.. i let this here for now. there are a lot more like "sandbox" to "Sandkasten" translated... a maybe english translation to a technical used german one ... and some german sentences that dont sound proper german. (like "Verbrauche NICHT all dein Rea". Should be more like "Verbrauche dein Rea NICHT"
