    Release 0.3.1.1

This is a bugfix release that fixes a crash on Android 9+ because of a missing permission (running a foreground service) and fixes a missing acknowledgement to jibiki.

Sorry for the inconvenience, I hope you'll all be able to enjoy this release!

    Release 0.3.1

This version provides some new features and improvements over 0.3.0:

A new dictionary is available from Jibiki, that provides results for the French language.

Because of this new dictionary, the way we managed tags is not working anymore, and a different format was required. This lead to the change in format that makes new dictionaries incompatible with older versions of this app. If you build this app, please do not use this version for a few days, as I plan to update the dictionaries on the server only when the new version is available in Fdroid. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Small UI changes are also included in this release: using the "back" button when the radical panel is shown used to close the app. It now closes the panel, and quits the app only when the panel is not shown. When there is no result, the app will tell you what it tried to look for in the dictionary. In case of error, the app will say "no results" instead of "searching". There was an issue where the dictionary list was not updated (graphically) after a refresh. It should be fixed now.

Translations were moved to Fedora's Weblate and thanks to that Nani is now available in Ukrainian and Simplified Chinese! Thanks to Tian Shixiong and Yuri Chornoivan!

I hope you will enjoy this release!

    Release 0.3.0

This version provides some new features and improvements:

This release adds a new entry in the app's menu: a help screen where you can get help on three topics: romaji input, kanji selection by radical (also accessible from the radical selection screen) and pitch accent.

Speaking of pitch accent, with the proper dictionary, you can now get pitch accent pattern (pronunciation) information with many search results, in the form of a small number. Clicking on this number will send you to the help topic for pitch accent.

In this release, I have added a new source for dictionaries: Wadoku. This is a Japanese/German dictionary that also provides some information about pitch accent, so this is also the source for the pitch accent patterns you can add (this is available for any language, not just German).

This version also improves the way dictionaries are downloaded: you can click on the notification to go to the detail screen of the dictionary being downloaded. The download now occurs in a service, so it will continue even if you leave the detail screen or even close the app! You can always cancel a download by going to the dictionary's detail page and tapping the pause button. Using a service also allows be to queue downloads, so you can begin a download for multiple dictionaries. The UI doesn't really reflect that though, so it may be a bit confusing. I hope to improve it in next version!

The about screen now features a button to download mozc, a Japanese input method for Android.

Some bugs were fixed: the rate of UI updates made some devices laggy when downloading a dictionary, which is now fixed. The dictionary list was not always updated, which lead to a bug where clicking on one dictionary would open the details of another.

Overall, I fixed some small warnings from the IDE that should also improve performance and memory usage.

I hope you will enjoy this release!

    Release 0.2.3

This version provides some bug fixes and some improvements over 0.2.2.1:

This release is mostly to fix issues with older devices (before 6.0, API 23). The major issue was caused by incorrect handling of icons which is now fixed. This caused a crash when trying to download a dictionary. Older devices showed a white text on white background on the dictionary list, which is now fixed.

This version also improves the UI a bit: the default size for radical button was too small and is now fixed to the "normal" size from the settings. Sometimes, the radical selection view would show radical stroke count out of order, which is now fixed by sorting stroke count upfront. Small alignment fixes should make the app more readable.

You can now navigate between screens with the back arrow on the action bar (top of the app). A dictionary update is now shown with a star on the icon and a bold font for its name, instead of an ugly yellowish background.

You will also notice if you have more than one dictionary, that search results from various dictionaries are now merged together in a single result.

As always, translations were updated. We still only have French, which I take care of. I'm currently setting up a translation platform in the hope it will make it more visible and others will be interested in translating the app. Of course you can still send me translations in any way you find the most convenient.

I hope you will enjoy this release!

So, there are some interesting changes in this release, but this is not 0.3 yet. I'm working on 0.3 on two other branches, and once they are merged, there will be a new release with them. So exciting!

    Release 0.2.2

This version provides some bug fixes and minor improvements over 0.2.1:

Dictionary list is now fetched from the nani website when you pull down. You should update that list regularly as it will not be updated automatically. Downloaded dictionaries are now put on the top of the list. This means that you do not need to update the application to see new dictionaries of already supported types, so I can now distribute new dictionaries more quickly since I don't have to wait for Fdroid to pick up the new release.

Partial downloads are now fully supported. You can pause and resume downloads and even resume downloads when they were broken because of a connection issue. Partial downloads of out of date files are discarded on the next attempt to download the file, so there is no risk you get a Frankenstein file made of different versions. A dictionary will not be used if it does not have the expected checksum.

A bug was fixed where fully downloaded files were treated as partial download, leading to a file that was impossible to update.

I hope you will enjoy this release!

The next release should be 0.3 and will most likely include new dictionary sources, stay tuned!

    Version 0.2.1

This version provides some bug fixes and minor improvements over 0.2:

You can now use the settings, and select a font size for input by radical. The app will now download a checksum when available with dictionaries and will not use a dictionary if the checksum does not match. Downloads will show a notification and will resume if they were interrupted, though that support is still incomplete.

Radical dictionary is very small and used to display a size of 0. This is fixed.

I hope you will enjoy this release!
