Add a local mass import feature in media-center
This issue is an open discussion to talk about a way to add a mass import feature in the Ideascube media-center.
Here are our needs :
- Upload files bigger than 1Gb
- Easy to use
- Add 5 or 50 files in a raw
- At least provide the fellowing field
- Title
- Description
- Language
- File name (browse)
- Author
- Topics
My proposal is to create a Samba share on the device (KoomBook or IdeasBox server).
Users are able to browser the share (eventually secured by a password) and upload files.
These files are stored in a stagging area on the device (ex: /var/cache/ideascube/data/mediacenter/
)
Once all the files are uploaded, the user has to go on the Ideascube web interface on a new special page where all the files from the stagging area are listed. The user will have to file up all the required field for each files. One file can be register or fifty files, each file that have the required filed completed are moved to /var/ideascube/main/mediacenter
and registered in the database.
This way is convenient because
- User can import as much file as she/he want, 4 per day or 50
- No limitation in upload, only bandwidth limitation
- Samba share footprint is low
However :
- It can be confusing to use (use a local share to upload files then use a web browser to add them)
- It can be less efficient than a full web browser solution
Samba share is already experimented through the KoomBook Doctor and working well !
