improve accessibility for visualy impared people
Created by: slobinger
First of all I think most of the hubzilla Web-UI is completely or nearly completely accessible for visualiy impared. But some core elements like the navigation bar are simply not usable for a blind person.
It is very easy to try this out:
- on windows download, install and run NVDA 2 on Android simply start TalkBack in accassebility settings
- on iOS and Mac OS you can test it with VoiceOver Simply try to navigate to settings without using your eyes.
What should we do?
The buttons or links where a screenreader only says 'button' or 'link to...' musst have text. If We do not want to show the text it is possible to use the 'alt' attribute for the images we place inside a button or link. I do not know if we already have meaningful template variables we can reuse for this elements.
I would like to help to implement the described improvements. I am software developer and my wife is blind the way is short for me to test the changes. But I think it would help if one can assist me to find the right places in code / file structure we have to change. I am sure we need changes in '/view/tpl/nav.tpl) but I am not sure where the template variables are defined.
best regards sebastian
