Feature request: ability for admin to specify maximum image size to be saved on server
Created by: joshua55
The problem I see is that inexperienced users don't know how to optimize their images prior to uploading. And even if they do the process takes time. So they will take a 5-6MB jpeg from their camera and attempt to upload it unaltered. To make the system more useful for novice and/or busy users in a social network type context, it would be great for the admin to be able to set a maximum image width for the site so that any image uploaded would automatically be resized (maintaining proportion) to that width dimension before being saved, and the original larger file would be deleted. It might also be useful to be able to specify the jpeg compression ratio as well. This would allow sites with limited hosting space to enforce smaller more optimized images without having to require that users take the time to shrink all their images before uploading to their channel feed.
