.homeinstall succeeds, but verification email not sent

I successfully installed Hubzilla with the .homeinstall scrip on a fresh install of Debian 10. I was able to get through the server setup process but, when I created the first user, no verification email was sent. From what I can see in mail.log, the connection with the destination host is timing out.

I'm wondering whether the local sending configuration is causing problems or being flagged for some reason.

How do I access the email configuration in Hubzilla. Perhaps setting up Hubzilla to send mail through my email provider would work better. That setup worked for me previously in a Matrix Synapse setup.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
