The second thing I've noticed is if I complete the Registration form, as soon as I click inside the password field, it inserts the text below into the nickname field, overwriting what was filled in:

It is inserting the text from the name field. If the name field is blank, nothing gets copied in.
I'm not sure if this is a code related issue as this is with v9.0, and I tested v8.8.8 as well. I'm suspecting it may have to do with Nginx Proxy Manager, even. Other thing is this is a Docker install from https://github.com/dhitchenor/hubzilla, and I have been working the last two days with that author to try to troubleshoot this. His setup uses Traefik reverse proxy though. But any help is welcome to at least help us pinpoint what the cause could be, as we've run out of ideas. I also searched for any advanced configs required for NginxPM and Hubzilla, but there is no mention of any. The Traefik labels also look pretty basic with just a forwarding
Specifically, I have a Nginx Proxy Manager container (which already handles Wordpress, Nextcloud, etc) and no additional code apart from forwarding requests from NginxPM to http://hub_web:80 (which is the Hubzilla web Nginx service). Hub_web is forwarding to hub:9000 where hub is the main Hubzilla service listening on port 9000. Welcome web page is loading fine and no errors.
I did also try Remote Authentication to my other Hubzilla channel, and after clicking Authenticate button I see this error:
```
Warning: Undefined array key "return_url" in /var/www/html/Zotlabs/Module/Rmagic.php on line 82
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /var/www/html/Zotlabs/Module/Rmagic.php:82) in /var/www/html/boot.php on line 1782
```
It may be something to do with the nginx.conf file for the Hubzilla Nginx web service. I realise this is not the "standard" Hubzilla bare metal install, but I'm hoping someone who knows the code would at least be able to verify:
1. It is a Hubzilla code issue or not?
2. Can we add a Custom CSS field to /settings/display -> Custom Theme settings
in order to allow for users to add custom CSS without having to renew their edits every time /view/theme/redbasic/css/style.css gets updated?
I can imagine two versions for that.
1. Either just add a "Custom CSS" with a radio button or tickbox. This would only lead adding a line to the end of style.css, like this
@import url(custom.css);
invoking a custom.css in the same folder with the users own changes.
2. Make "Custom CSS" a field to add additional CSS directly (and to be saved in the database), and invoke that in the end of style.css-
In both cases I'd invoke that **in the end **of style.css, because it makes overrides of already defined rules possible without using an additional "!important" any time such an existing rule is hit.
@mario @snake66
This method would also circumvent going through an entire theme change - or the existing, but somehow intangible way to add changes to a theme otherwise.

However, some parts of Hubzilla that should convert them back into the characters they're supposed to be don't do so, at least not in the summary.
For one, this is Hubzilla's own post editor. Special characters written in the summary field appear as their HTML entities in the summary field when editing the post. If you type a `"` in a summary, and you edit the post, there will be `"` where there should be `"`.
This also means that when editing and saving the post, these HTML entities will be converted into HTML versions of _themselves_. So with each edit, `"` becomes `"`, then `"` because the `&` in `"` is converted into its own HTML entity `&` and not converted back, then `"`, then `"` and so forth.
Besides, special characters in summaries are sent through non-Zot protocols as their HTML entities as well. At least, I have experienced this behaviour in the case of ActivityPub. And ActivityPub-based projects do not necessarily (read: generally not at all) expect and convert HTML entities. So any special character in a summary on Hubzilla will appear as its HTML entity in the content warning on e.g. Mastodon.
## Steps to reproduce: ##
1. Have at least one Mastodon contact.
2. Write a post with "Test" (quotation marks included) as the summary.
4. Check the post on Hubzilla and Mastodon.
3. Send the post publicly or to that Mastodon contact.
5. Edit the post and resend it to the same audience.
6. Check the post on Hubzilla and Mastodon again.
7. Edit the post once more and resend it to the same audience.
8. Check the post on Hubzilla and Mastodon again.
## What "Test" should be expected to look like:
- In Hubzilla's summary after the first time sending it: `"Test"`
- In Mastodon's content warning after the first time sending it: `"Test"`
- In Mastodon's content warning after the third time sending it: `"Test"`
- In the post editor when editing the post for the first time: `"Test"`
- In Hubzilla's summary after the second time sending it: `"Test"`
- In the post editor when writing the post: `"Test"`
- In Mastodon's content warning after the second time sending it: `"Test"`
- In the post editor when editing the post for the first time: `"Test"`
- In Hubzilla's summary after the third time sending it: `"Test"`
## What "Test" will actually look like:

- In Mastodon's content warning after the second time sending it: `"Test"`

So, people should have the option to maintain a custom .htaccess file.
As per issue #1834, I propose _something like_ 1 of the 2 following solutions:
**Solution \#1: _To ONLY create custom URL rewriting rules_**
1) Add a "[RewriteOptions InheritBefore](https://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/mod/mod_rewrite.html#rewriteoptions)" directive to the mod_rewrite section in the existing repo .htaccess file that:
- _If_ Hubzilla should run in a virtual host's webroot directory, requires the virtual host's _default_ web root directory to be changed to a custom directory beneath the previous, default webroot directory
- Requires Hubzilla installation in a default webroot's subdirectory or, as indicated above, a custom webroot directory
- Enables a custom .htaccess file in the Hubzilla installation's parent directory whose rewrite rules supersede Hubzilla's core rewrite rules
- Requires NO mod_rewrite directives in core Apache server config files that could, in some cases, potentially and detrimentally supersede Hubzilla's core rewrite rules (maybe a deal breaker?? -- I don't know if this is common)
**Solution \#2**
1) Rename the existing repo .htaccess file to, e.g., .htaccess.default
2) Create a new installation (PHP or Bash?) script that:
- Runs git pull
- Checks for the existence of .htaccess in the local repo copy
- If no .htaccess exists, then copy .htaccess.default to a new .htaccess file
- If .htaccess does exist and is identical to .htaccess.default, do nothing
- If .htaccess does exist and is not identical to .htaccess.default, log a message in php.out?? (or elsewhere) saying that new .htaccess updates are available in .htaccess.defaulthttps://framagit.org/hubzilla/core/-/issues/1835New hooks needed for CAPTCHA addon2024-01-19T11:29:12ZScott M. There are a variety of ways to make ...We are building websites that have a home page, and one of the requirements is that if you go to the root of `example.com`, it does not redirect you to another page... it just displays the home page.
There are a variety of ways to make this happen. One is changing the rewrite directive in `.htaccess`. But we discovered that `.htaccess` is included in the core and might overwrite our version.
And using `include:home.php` in the admin settings for the home page won't solve the problem since you can't get to the home page when logged in, since it redirects to `/hq`.
One possible solution is to change `.htaccess` so that local changes won't get overwritten. This has its pros and cons. Namely that you have to manually change if for every website, and if the core needs to change the `.htaccess`, each site has to manually update `.htaccess`.
The other solution is to change how the core handles the home page. This is the preferred way.
We can set it up so that people have a choice on how it behaves.
Option 1: Root `/` shows home page when logged out, redirects to `/hq` when logged in.
Option 2: Root `/` always shows home page.
Before we spend a lot of time working on this, we want to know if a change like this would be accepted in the core.https://framagit.org/hubzilla/core/-/issues/1833Enabling Child Themes2024-01-18T11:02:29ZScott M.
